There was a simpler time not that long ago when advent calendars featured pictures and nothing else.
No daily treat of chocolate, no beauty products – and definitely no booze, or cheese, or pork scratchings.
But amidst all the doom and gloom of this year, December has rolled around once more and we have access to an incredible range of weird and wonderful advent calendars.
For children, it’s fairly simple and there is an excellent range of calendars featuring characters from their favourite show, along with the now obligatory sweet treat.
But being a parent in 2020 is tough – even before coronavirus – there are lots of things to worry about when it comes to raising children.
It’s important to ensure that no child grows up too soon and one man left people in stitches with his tongue-in-cheek warning.
He warned fellow parents to check the advent calendar after spotting ‘guns and grenades’ in the post.
Man Behaving Dadly shared the hilarious post on his Facebook blog.
He joked: “I’m bloody furious today. My son has opened two doors of his Paw Patrol advent calendar so far and found a gun and a grenade.
“Disgusting – just wanted to warn other parents out there.”
One fan joked: “So did you eat them yourself so his innocent little tummy wasn’t corrupted?”
Another joked: “Don’t forget to be dicusted. It’s a stupid type of digusted.”
An edited version of his warning left people in stitches after a screengrab was shared on Twitter.
One woman joked: ” Facebook mas back at it.”
Another commented: “Hahaha creased me up this.”
A third joked: “Must be a constant good trip living in her head.”
A fourth agreed: “I’d hate my son’s advert calendar to have stuff like that. I’d be furiass too!,” while another commented: “This is bizarre.”
Lots of people correctly identified that the post was a spoof, as one person commented: “This is definitely satire….right?”
Another added: “This is a joke. I’m sure of it.”
It follows the makers of Celebrations facing a brutal reception after people were disappointed to discover the same chocolate bar four days in a row.
It’s a controversial choice at the best of times – and many customers voiced their anger after Bounty bars were the surprise sweet tweet once again.
On Twitter, one customer complained: “I have a Celebrations advent calendar and if I open that thing tomorrow and there’s a Bounty, well that’s just gonna be 2020 summed up,” while another moaned: “Is this some sick joke”
A spokesman for Mars said: “We all have our favourites. Bounty might be the last chocolate left in the tub for some people, but for others, two advent Bounty treats in a row get their season off to a great start!
“Don’t worry, there’s something for everyone in the calendar – no peeking on what comes next!”
